He opined that crime results from a product of human nature and since humans posses free will, they have thereof the ability to control their own actions (Carrabine, Iganski, Lee, Plummer, and South, 2004). Bentham suggested that a criminal justice system is more reasonable as compared to the classic barbaric system of capital punishment. fit to him, there should be more focus on the enforcement of the law and the legal processes instead on the contrary causes of crime (Bentham, 1789).For Beccaria (1764), in his famous book On Crimes and Punishments , crimes do not exist by reason of bad indi viduals but from bad laws. He suggested new perspective based on justice. This became major design of the modern criminal justice system. As asserted by the early positivist theorists, free will is out of the question in studying crime. These theorists used empirical research methods by which they theorized that the causes of crimes are biological, psychological and environmental factors (Carrabine et al, 2004). This is different from the classical approach which has its sight on legal issues and crime prevention.According to the positivist criminologists, as shared by Cesare Lombroso, the causes and effects of criminal behavior can be directly observed. Molten magma carried these elements to the surface they then combined to form water. This however does not seem sufficient to account for 70% of the earths surface. Online Dating Service and Long-term Relationship Essay Example for Free

Online Dating Service and Long-term Relationship EssayIn the last compeer of weeks, eHarmony, a dating website that promises to help you find a long-term relationship for a relatively modest monthly subscription fee, has been whirl a free political campaign 10 days of free communication. This marketing campaign is designed to attract new customers and convert some of the existing ones to become succumbing members (currently it claims more than 20 million registered users). This seems like a reasonable growth strategy more paying customers will help eHarmony grow and improve its bottom line. As with some(prenominal) platform business, eHarmony relies on having lots of the great unwashed in its database.Having more people to choose from makes it more likely that the site will find a groovy stone. Clearly, offering a free trial period is a obedient way to attract more people to the site. But in fact, for reasons my colleague Misiek Piskorski and I study (pdf), it may non be good for eHarmonys business. eHarmony is not your usual online dating site. Unlike Match. com or OkCupid, users do not get to browse scores of profiles to see if there is someone they might like. Instead, eHarmony does the choosing for you, sending you a limited number of compatible matches candidates the sites proprietary algorithm thinks will make a good match. The company also differs because it aims at people who are looking for long-term relationship or even marriage, not those who look for casual dating. To successfully match people who are looking for a long-term relationship, eHarmony needs not just a lot of people in their database, it also needs people who are ready for a long-term relationship. This seems self-evident, but cluttering up the site with those looking for something else will increase the noise-to-signal ration and make matching harder. In its occasional business, eHarmony does an excellent job by discouraging potential customers who may not be so serious about dating. They ask potential members to complete a very long questionnaire of more than 250 questions. And if the answers suggest that you are not serious enough, they reject you. eHarmony also charges more than Match. com up to a 25 percent premium. As a result, only people who really care about establishing a long-term relationship will end up at the site. If the value youre offering your customers rests on exclusive membership of similarly minded relationship seekers, what happens if you make it easy for others to get in for a while? You might get a lot of people who dont care that much about a serious relationship, or who are looking for a different product, like a spry adventure. When such people roam around your site, they create a negative externality for your core members, who may discover that its more difficult to find a long-term relationship the very service they had paid a premium to get. In a nutshell, when you lower the barriers to entry, you threaten your core value proposition to your virtually valuable customers. So promotion strategies that work well for Match. com or other platforms like job-hunting sites may be dangerous for eHarmony, as they may unintentionally sabotage the sites core value proposition. Fortunately, eHarmony didnt really get it wrong. It has instituted a number of safeguards that prevent not-so-serious people from getting on the site even during the free trial. People who motivation to try the site for 10 days still need to complete the long questionnaire, and may still be rejected if their answers suggest they are not serious enough.Only after jumping this major hurdle can the potential members enjoy the free trial. Applying Resource Based View to Strategic Human Resource Essay Example for Free

Applying Resource found experience to Strategic Human Resource EssayWhat is Resource Based View in Strategic Management? Almost all business management courses turn over a module that includes study of strategical management. Our homework helps experts have expertise in the field of strategic management. There are different perspectives and greetes to field of strategic management. This web log post would discuss in detail what imagery based posture of strategic management is.This perspective stresses and based on the perspective that resources of the company whether tangible or intangible like brand name, assets, cash, guest loyalty, research and development capabilities are an important and main aspect while forming or pursuing a unique strategic position for a company. This fancy of strategic management rather than being driven by the environment is internally resource driven and in this perspective of strategic management the placement is attitudeed as a collectio n of capabilities and competences. Organizations leverage new actives from its existing core competencies.According to Barney (1991) analysis of the impact of a firms environment on its agonistical position is based on two assumptions. First, firms inside an industry or a strategic group are identical in foothold of strategic relevant sources they control and the strategies they pursue and second, these models assume that should resources heterogeneity develop in an industry or group will be very bypass lived because the resources that firms use to implement their strategies are highly mobile i. e. they squirt be bought or sold in factor markets (Barney, 1991).Resource based view assumes that companies within an industry or group may be heterogeneous with respect to the strategic resources they control and these are non perfectly mobile, thus heterogeneity can be long lasting (Barney, 1991). Simply, it is suggested that firm resources may be heterogeneous and immobile. Accordin g to Daft (1983), firm resources include all assets, capabilities, organisational processes, firm attributes, information, knowledge, etc. controlled by a firm that enable the firm to conceive of and implement strategies that improve its efficiency and effectiveness.According to Barney (1991), firm resources that hold the potential for sustained competitive wages must have four attributes which are valuable, rare, In-imitable, and non-substitutable. So in resource based view of the firm, strategy of the firm is basically dependent on firms resources. This view again as the market based view is focus on some important aspects but at the same time ignores some different basic aspects of strategy formulation for a company. So resource based view of the firm is also not a balanced view. We hope that this blog post is useful for the students and practitioners of the field ofstrategic management. Please email us emailprotected comif you need anystrategic managementhelpregarding the modul e of strategic management. The Resource Based View (RBV), argued by some to be at the foundation of modern HRM,13focusses on the internal resources of the organisation and how they contribute to competitive advantage. The uniqueness of these resources is preferred to homogeneity and HRM has a central role in developing human resources that are valuable, rare, difficult to copy or substitute and that are effectively organized.Overall, the theory of HRM argues that the goal of human resource management is to help an organization to meet strategic goals by attracting, and maintaining employees and also to manage them effectively. The key word here perhaps is fit, i. e. a HRM approach seeks to ensure a fit between the management of an organizations employees, and the overall strategic direction of the company (Miller, 1989). The resource-based view to strategic human resource management (SHRM) focuses on the costly to copy attributes of the firm as the fundamental drivers of performanc e and competitive advantage (Cooner 1991).Linking to the understanding of the resource based view of the firm Barney (1991) described competitive advantage as when a firm is implementing a value creating strategy not simultaneously being implemented by any current or potential competitors. The task is to maintain this competitive advantage in such a way that competitors efforts to replicate that advantage are frustrated and eventually cease. The resource-based view focuses on the promotion of sustained competitive advantage through the development of the human capital rather than merely aligning human resources to current strategic goals (Torrington et al 2002).This essay will show various ways on how the resource-based view of SHRM in organisations can contribute to enhanced organisational performance. Human resources can get out competitive advantage for the business, as long as they are unique and can not be copied or substituted for by competing organisations, competitive succe ss not coming from simply making choices in the present, but from building up distinctive capabilities over significant periods of time (Boxall 1996).

Hitler Invading The Soviet Union History Essay

Hitler Invading The Soviet Union History EssayDuring the summer day of July 22nd, 1941, Adolf Hitler attacked the largest country, geographically, in the world, Russia (Hitlers intrusion and Russia). The people of Ger legion(predicate) thought that Hitler was insane if he wanted to actually invade the Soviet Union (Hitlers Invasion). Three military groups attacked Russia on June 22nd 1941. Army root North, led by von Leeb, Army Group Centre, commanded by von Bock and Army Group South commanded by von Rundstedt (Trueman, Barbarossa). Russia was defended by four army units. though Russia had a large army, the purges had wiped out a considerable part of the armys senior commanders (Trueman, Barbarossa). Hitlers forces initially won many an(prenominal) battles and had many victories against the Russians (Trueman, Barbarossa). However, these victories soon turned bad delinquent to several crucial mis offsprings that Hitler let slip. Hitler should not father attacked Russia because of his failure to anticipate the abilities of the fierce Army, the weather of Russia, and his faulty leadership during the operation. The German Armys failure to anticipate the abilities of the Russia Red Army was virtuoso of its key springs for failure. The Red Army was able to mobilize twice as many troops as the Germans had initially estimated (Barbarossa). The Russians were able to tack their fallen armies far quicker than the Fuehrer had expected and therefore the German Army had to halt in order to get more supplies (Barbarossa). This contributed to Germanys encountering of the Russian Winter. Furthermore, the Russians were prepared to lag hundreds of thousands of men and were prepared to sacrifice equipment as shown in their victory at Kursk (Kursk). The Russian Army also proved its ability to replace its soldiers quickly allowed it to fastening losses in the Army while the German Army lost people while its resources were lagging behind (Stalingrad). The Soviets also pro ved in truth competent in raising and training many new armies from the different ethnic populations of the far flung republics. (Barbarossa). This allowed them to survive the critical six months of the battle even if they had poor equipment and training. agree to operating room Barbarossa, the German army had problems with their infantry throughout the conflict while Russia had a well numbered force. Though the German army won many victories, this gave the Russians near advantage. With these kinds of crucial underestimations, the Germans became under-supplied and their forces began to progressively weaken. In addition to the tactical failures, the German control also underestimated the leadership of the Soviet Union. The Germans thought that the Soviet government was completely otiose (Barbarossa). With this belief the Germans hoped that the government would collapse from the attack. This, thus far, did not happen. This made it harder for the Germans who were anticipating a s hort battle that was to end by fall of 1941 (Barbarossa). The Germans failure to anticipate the Russian potential difference was one of their key factors in losing the Russian Invasion.Another crucial factor that became an obstacle for the Germans was the Russian winter. Hitler had prepared for a quick war, in turn he failed to prepare well to wage battle during the harsh Russian winter (Barbarossa). The temperatures dropped to 50 degrees below the zero (Stalingrad). Entire divisions died from the brutal temperatures (Russian Winter). The equipment and vehicles that they had froze (Barbarossa). This significantly affected deed Barbarossa overdue to the large losses. The German offensive was slowed to a crawl because of the numeral failures that were inflicted by the Russian winter (Russian Winter). When winter struck, the German troops lacked the winter equipment involve and the rations that the Army required (Stalingrad). German weapons malfunctioned in the cold. Lubricating oi ls were unsuitable for these temperatures, leading to engine malfunction and misfiring weapons (Barbarossa). Without the airplanes and weapons, the Germans were virtually defenseless. At this point, the German army was at an especial disadvantage. check to the article Operation Barbarossa, the soviet soldiers did not have such severe problems. The Russians used insulating blankets to cover their aircrafts so that the engines did not freeze and lighter-weight oil was used. Germans had problems with their fuel due to the lack of anti-freeze (Barbarossa). The Russian winter caused great losses for the German army and after the Battle of Moscow, the Germans had to retreat and revise their war plans regarding Russia. The Russian winter again crippled the Germans, who even after the experience, did not prepare better for the siege of the Crocuses and Stalingrad (Stalingrad). The German haste for victory and battle severely affected them in their preparations regarding Operation Barbaross a and, therefore, the Russian winter took the Germans by surprise. In addition, Hitlers decision to stay even after knowing that a repetition ofNapoleons disastrous retreat from Moscow (Barbarossa) was very likely, led to loss of valuable men and resources. With the Russian winter being the most severe that year than any other, the Russians were able to maintain their position. The third reason that Germany should not have attacked Russia was that the plan lacked logistical planning. One example is the winters of 1941 and 1942. Both times the Germans were caught by the horrendous Russian winter unprepared (Barbarossa and Stalingrad). One would deliberate that at least after experiencing the cold winter of 1941 the Germans would have prepared better for the winter of 1942 when they invaded Stalingrad. The German Army command also ignored one crucial warning. The German army could not be continuously supplied to wage long combat (Barbarossa). During the Battle of Stalingrad, the army had to stop several times so that its resources could control up and usually resources were lagging far behind (Stalingrad). The Nazi command assumed that it would within five weeks the army would be able to take down the Red Army (Barbarossa). According to Operation Barbarossa, the German infantry rushed ahead about 300 mi. (480km) while the supplies were struggling to barely catch up. The lack of constant supplies slowed down the blitzkrieg down significantly. The Germans had seriously overestimated the quality and condition of the Russian transportation network. The differences in the railroad configurations and the fact that the Russian people had dismantled the railroads near the border (Barbarossa). In addition to the supply problem, the German army executed certain simulated military operation that made their defeat possible. One of these tactics was sending the bulk of the sixth army in Stalingrad (Trueman). Marshall Zhukov was able to surround the army of Paulus in the ci ty and destroyed virtually the entire army by depriving them of supplies (Stalingrad). Planning errors such as not securing the transportation before proceeding, and sending almost the entire army into a city, caused huge problems and losses for the Germans. improper planning was a main problem that Hitler should have considered before attacking Russia.Hitlers decision to attack was supported by Germanys military status at the time, however due to some serious flaws that could have been prevented before attacking the Soviet Union. Hitlers racial views toward the Russian people blinded him to the real facts that were there (Hitlers Invasion). Hitler should also have analyzed history better because no one has ever conquered Russia completely. Russias large size and horrendous weather were able to protect it even though many loyal Russian soldiers gave up their lives for mother Russia. Also by enraging Russia, Hitler caused his own downfall and the defeat of Germany. Russia destroyed almost three times as many divisions as the Allies during D-Day in Normandy (Hitlers Invasion). The invasion of Russia was a fatal mistake for Hitler and Germany.

Free Essays - Animal Farm As A Social Criticism :: Animal Farm

Animal Farm As A Social censure           Writers often use social criticism in their books to show corruptness or weak points of a group in society.  One way of doing this is fiction which is a story in which figures and actions are symbols of general truths.  George Orwell is an example of an author who uses allegory to show a social criticism effectively.  As in his fiction Animal Farm, Orwell makes a parody of Soviet Communism as demonstrated by Animal Farms brutal totalitarian rule, manipulated and exploited working(a) class, and the bullshits evolution into the capitalists they initially opposed.  Totalitarianism is a political regime based on subordination of the individual to the state and strict control of all aspects of life.  It was used by Stalin and the Bolsheviks in Russia during the 1920s and 30s and is parodied in Animal Farm by Napoleon, the almighty leader, and his fellow pigs and their ridiculous prop aganda and rigorous rule. In the book, Napoleon is deified and made superior to all other animals on the farm, for example he is called emperor or leader while everyone else was referred to as a comrade, and all the pigs were given higher authority then the quietus of the animals.  An inequality between the pigs and rest of the farm was that the pigs lived in the farm house while the other majority had to sleep in pastures.  A certain pig Squealer who could turn black into white was in charge of propaganda, and he would often change the commandments of the farm so that they would fit the actions of Napoleon or the upper berth class of the farm which was supposedly classless.  For example, at one time a commandment read No animal shall drink alcohol(P. 75), but in brief after Napoleon drank an abundance and almost died the commandment was changed to No animal shall drink to excess. which made it seem as though Napoleon was within the rules.  other instance where N apoleon showed severe rule was when everyone on the farm who had either pledged for or showed support at one time for Snowball, the exiled former leader, was penalize on the spot.  This act was a humorous resemblance of The Great Purge in Russia where all opposition was killed off.  The governing system of the Animal Farm was very corrupt, but it did not stop with the propaganda and executions. At first on the Animal Farm, it was promised to the majority of the animals who were neither Napoleon or a pig, or the so-called working class, that from each according to his ability to each according to his needs, no more, no less.
